12-inch Hand Carved Alebrije Fish Sculpture - Zapotec Fish

This gift creates employment for indigenous artisans
Your Impact

Artisans in the developing world lack access to the global economy. Novica works to employ artisans and preserve their culture around the world, while providing meaningful access to global markets. Many artisans live in rural communities and don't have the means to sell their work on the international market. Novica gives them a free platform to do this, and reach customers on a global scale while preserving indigenous culture and artistry. Since 1999, over $88M has been sent to indigenous artisans and all products are produced under fair trade standards.
Your purchase today ensures artisans in the developing world have a better tomorrow.
A sculpture of a vibrant, rotund fish with large, expressive eyes glides gracefully through cool rivers - body and fins are adorned with intricate, colorful motifs inspired by Zapotec art and ancient temples. Created by the talented Manuel Cruz, this sculpture is a stunning example of Mexico's alebrije art. Carved by hand from copal wood in the traditional Oaxacan style, it is meticulously painted with tiny brushes, with the finest details applied using a maguey thorn.
